blue [harmony]

Cookie + water + reading = ultimate trifecta.

Amazing surroundings.

Longest beach legs.

Beautiful camera reaction.

Romantic bicycle tires.

Sweet Castro harmony.

Fiber longing.

green [nature]

I can't get enough of nature. And I don't want to. City jungles, spinach forests, foggy coves... any and all of it. Yes, please.

I miss the sights of the west coast, but I've been running through the woods here. I saw a baby alligator. There's lots of green. But it's harder to see when the land is so flat.

one: Valencia Street is full of magical furnishings.

two: Delfina Pizzeria delicious--
Star Route Farms broccoli raab, caciocavallo, mozzarella, olives, and hot peppers

three: deer near Point Reyes lighthouse

four: going through the Poppop (granddad) art archive; more weird commissions for unknown projects. This time, big-eyed pets?

red [life]

I'm feeling good and productive. I've got ideas and projects and goals and dreams and AND AND!!
It's great! It's hopeful. I needed this. I'm learning so much.
I ended the year 2011 in a positively happy mood despite, well, many things, but freshly cutting my knee open (I went back and forth about posting that photo---kinda beautifully red, but maybe actually really gross..? Ha). I've been fairly clumsy lately; I attribute it to the moon phases and my new "free" sense of self.  Aka there is no point in being so caution because shit is going to happen regardless.

I watched the movie Beginners last night... into the New Year. Wonderful. It hit all the right places in my head and heart. Appropriate, too. It is time for beginnings. One thing that stayed with me was the meanings behind each color of the rainbow flag. So for today I choose red. Life.

These photos are from a variety of moments in 2011.
Crazy milk drinks from the asian market in El Cerrito. A lust-worthy moped on Valencia Street.
A Ritual Coffee Roasters sea salt chocolate chip cookie.
A puppy on the BART. (I miss California, but I don't feel too far from it...)
Two disposable camera prints from my recent twenty-second birthday. Back in Gainesville.

[I thought I'd participate in this January 2012 photo project and today is "YOU"]
So the final shot is a bowl-cut portrait from around age 5 or so.

Wholehearted. 2012! READY set go!

returns

dear you,
I'm quite sorry for the neglect. I've been thinking about
you daily, honestly. Excuses: too busy, too tired, or too
something. Now I would like to be too involved in keeping
this a priority.
Sincerely, me.

P.s. Here's a little bit of stuffs thats been happening:

I took a very swift trip to Baltimore and had a wonderful time---
all despite the fact that I worked late on a Monday, drove there on
a Tuesday (up at 5am--took nine hours),
packed and moved in hundred degree plus weather, then drove
back on a Thursday (another none hours!) and worked that Friday
morning.

Baltimore was full of love and friends and delicious eating.

Traveling was full of ocean and fog and bridges and ferries.

Back on the island there was the arrival of my favorite pup,
Nora. Plus, cousins, uncle, and beach picnics.

I bought these Ked-like shoes for seven dollars (my goal
was to find a pair of shoes I could adventure in--hike, beach,
wander--and not worry about, all under ten dollars: check!)
A long lost pair was hidden in a shelf at this strange island
store. They are a shade one of wonderful (power color?) and
I've been wearing them like I was born to.

Eating a lot of sweets (what's new there?). Seeing live music
(I like the rainbow palette of the crowd). August blooms filling
my rooms.

travels

Hells Bells! It's been too long. I guess that's what happens
when you pack in lots of hang time before you say goodbye
to friends&family/drive hundreds of miles/move to an island
on the weekend (no internet).

It's been fun, delicious, exhausting, nerve-racking, beautiful,
smoky, sweaty, freezing... yeah. Everything, really.

I guess this transition calls for a little recapping.

Me and my best Gainesville gang did what we do best---eat
at Leo's by the Slice and play wordy games (portabella pizza
and Bananagrams).

My sweet sisterly Daniela made this blueberry pie. Stupendous!
I kept going back to the kitchen to "get more water."
(aka to even out the remaining pie in the dish)

I got fancy to go out on hot, sticky nights, even when there
wasn't actually anything to do.

Managed some happy slowness: a SundayStyles section &
an iced coffee + Volta family chatting. Plus, a crafternoon
of jewelry making.

Then road tripping began (me + younger bro, Sam).
Gainesville to Baltimore in one shot. One long, flat road
for hours and hours and...more hours. Oh yeah, and then
a few more.

Moe the Cat in his little carrier. Boy was he a trooper. And he
still loves me more than ever, despite the daily traumas of
cages, other dogs, other cats, and being walked on a leash.

Much fun in Baltimore even in the condensed timeframe.
(And holy geez it was HOT! 100ish degrees both days, really?)
Homemade fudge brownie sundaes, backyard bbq, exploration,
heat-delirium, ETHIOPIAN food, boyfriend, a balti-bestie with
fresh strawberry herb sorbet. Yeah, score.

(my boyfriend is the best decorator; his house looks different every time
---wonderful every time)

Bro and boh.

If you go to Baltimore, eat at Tabor.

We stopped in Vermont so I could drop Sam off (summer work).
It was gorgeous. I wanted to bottle up some of that air.

Taking the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard was grey, wet,
and chilly. But it was nice to be arriving at a stopping point.
The home of summer.

Got it?
Let's get back on this regularity thing. Also, wish for some sun
and dryness for me? Thanks!
